  2. There are a total of 13 essential minerals
  3. These are required for growth, development, movement, energy production, and other metabolic activities.
  4. Essentials minerals are divided broadly into macrominerals and trace minerals depending on their amounts required for the body.

Macrominerals:

  1. Those minerals required in large amount, i.e., around100 mg/day are called macro minerals
  2. Calcium, Phosphorous, Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Sulphur and Chlorine are macrominerals

Trace minerals:

  1. Trac minerals are required in fewer amounts, i.e., around 15 mg/day.
  2. Iron, Zinc, Iodine, Copper, Manganese, Fluorine, Chromium, Molybdenum, Selenium
