The balanced equation for the reaction of TiCl4 with O2 is as follows.
TiCl4(s)+O2(g)TiO2(s)+2Cl2(g)
Moles of O2=given massmolar mass=4032=1.25mol
Moles of TiCl4=given massmolar mass=60190 = 0.316 mol
1 mol of O2 reacts with 1 mol of TiCl4
1.25 mol of O2 will react with 1.25 mol of TiCl4.
Therefore, TiCl4 is the limiting reagent.
1 mol of TiCl4 produces 1 mol of TiO2
0.316 mol of TiCl4 will produce 0.316 mol of TiO2
Mass of TiO2 formed = 0.316 mol × molar mass of TiO2=0.316×80 g
