Question

How many litres of water flow out of a pipe having an area of cross section of 5 cm2 in 1 minute, if the speed of water in the pipe is 30 cm/sec ?

Solution

It is given that
Speed of water in the pipe =30cm/sec

We know that

Volume of water flows out of the pipe in one second = area of cross section × length of water flows in one sound

By substituting the values

Volume of water that flows out of the pipe in one second =5(30)=150cm3

So the volume of water that flows out of the pipe in one minute =150(60)=9000 cm3=9 litres

Therefore, 9 litres of water flows out of the pipe in one minute.
