Solution

The number of metal, non-metal and metalloids in third period

  • The elements present in the third period are Sodium, Magnesium, Aluminum, Silicon, Phosphorous, Sulphur and Chlorine.
  • On moving left to right in a period, the metallic properties decrease while the non-metallic properties increases.
  • Thus, Sodium, Magnesium, Aluminum are metals while Phosphorous, Sulphur and Chlorine are non-metals and Silicon is a metalloid.

Hence, there are two metals, three non-metals and one is metalloid present in the third period of periodic table.
