Question

How many moles of oxygen gas are produced when 0.500 mol of Na2O2 reacts with water?

Open in App
Solution

Sodium peroxide reacts with water as follows:

Na2O2(s)+12 H2O(l)2NaOH(aq)+H2O2(aq)

As we can see from the reaction that oxygen is not evolved on reacting sodium peroxide with water, so we will get zero moles of oxygen on reacting 0.500 mol of Na2O2 with water.
