A balanced chemical equation has an equal number of atoms on both sides of a chemical reaction.​
For the given equation:​
CH4+O2CO2+H2O
The number of carbon (C) atoms on the reactant side = number of carbon atoms on the product side.​
Number of oxygen (O) atoms on the reactant side = 2​
Number of oxygen (O) atoms on the product side = 3​
So, we will multiply 2 on the left-hand side to O2 and the right-hand side to H2O. Now, the number of hydrogen atoms and oxygen atoms are the same on both sides of the equation and the balanced equation is:​
CH4+2O2CO2+2H2O
So, there are 2 water molecules present in the balanced chemical equation.​
