Open in App
Solution

Nucleopolyhedrovirus(NPV):
  1. The nucleopolyhedrovirus (NPV) belongs to the family of baculoviruses is a virus affecting insects predominantly moths and butterflies.
  2. It has been used as a pesticide.
  3. Nucleopolyhedrovirus preparations have been used commercially against pests such as Trichoplusia and the cotton leafworm.

Mechanism of action:

  1. Nucleopolyhedrovirus are used in these days for the biological control of insect pests.
  2. After ingesting NPV, infected larvae will eat normally for a couple of days before reducing feeding substantially.
  3. Diseased larvae typically climb to the top of the plant and die.
  4. Shortly after death, the body becomes flaccid and the skin ruptures, releasing millions of infectious virus particles.
  5. When many larvae are living close together, they can infect each other and results in complete eradication of pests.
