Question

How nutrients are used again and again?

Open in App
Solution

The nutrients in the environment are used again and again through nutrient cycling.

Nutrient cycling :

  1. The exchange of inorganic nutrients between biotic and abiotic factors of the environment is termed nutrient cycling.
  2. The flow of nutrients: When living organisms such as plants and animals die, their remains are decomposed by composers such as bacteria into inorganic nutrients. These are again utilized by producers to make organic compounds that are consumed by primary consumers. Hence, organic compounds are passed from producers to primary consumers and then to secondary consumers, and then to tertiary consumers.
