Before the age of industries and British rule, Indian trading system was mostly based around the model of self-sufficient villages. Villages generally produced everything required by the common people and most trade was between the villagers themselves. Things that were produced within villages were agricultural products, cotton textile manufactured through hand, iron equipment, pottery etc.
There were larger markets at the regional level or at the level of entire India for certain luxury products. But the demand for such products was confined to the aristocratic classes.
