Question

How will the plant manage pollination without an animal agent?

Open in App
Solution

Pollination is the process of transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of another flower of the same species.Various agents are responsible for this process of pollination:
● Biotic agents
  • Insects
  • Snails
  • Birds
  • Ants
  • Bats etc.
● Abiotic agents ○ Wind ○ Water etc. Anemophilous and hydrophilous flowers can be pollinated by the abiotic agents. However, most of the plants are pollinated by animals. Absence of animals would lead to reduction of cross pollination. The species diversity and richness might be reduced.
