  2. It is found in the lining of the mouth, kidney tubules, etc.
  3. It helps to protect the body from pathogen infections.
  4. Based on the arrangement of layers, it is classified into the simple epithelium and stratified or compound epithelium.

Simple epithelium:

When the tissues consist of a single layer of cells, then it is called the simple epithelium.

Stratified or compound epithelium:

When the tissues consist of more than one layer of cells, then it is called stratified or compound epithelium.
