Question

How will you identify a plane mirror, a convex mirror and a concave mirror without touching their surface?

Open in App
Solution

Step-1

  1. There are mainly two types of mirrors by which light is reflected to form different types of images.
  2. One is a plane mirror and the other type is a curved or spherical mirror that includes both convex as well as a concave mirror.

Step-2

  1. All the mirrors can be distinguished from each other by looking at the image formed by them.
  2. A plane mirror can be identified: if the image size is similar to the object size and the image stays upright, then the mirror is considered a plane mirror.
  3. A concave mirror can be identified: If the size of the image increases as it is moved away from the mirror and the image stays upright and magnified, then the mirror is called a concave mirror.
  4. A convex mirror can be identified: If the image gets smaller by taking the mirror far away then the mirror will be considered as a convex mirror.
  5. With these above three cases, the given mirrors can be distinguished.
