(1)Alcohols are produced when haloalkanes (alkyl halides) are heated with aqueous sodium or potassium hydroxide or mist silver oxide

$C_{6} H_{5} {C H}_{2} C l + K O H (a q) \to C_{6} H_{5} {C H}_{2} O H + K C l$

(2)When butan-2-ol is heated with concentrated $H_{2} {S O}_{4}$ ,but-2-ene is the major product according to saytzeff rule

(3) Ethyl acetate is synthesized by Fischer esterification reaction of ethanol and acetic acid.
