Question

How will you separate a mixture of chalk and common salt into it's components?

Open in App
Solution

  • Decantation can be used here since common salt is soluble in water and chalk does not
  • Chalk will remain as an insoluble part which can be separated by decantation by pouring the insoluble contents into another beaker.
  • Dissolved common salt can be separated by the evaporation technique

Hence, decantation can be used to separate the mixture of chalk and common salt
