Solution

Step 1 Understanding the concept: A mixture is a substance in which substances retain their properties. Example Air is a mixture, in which all its constituents, oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide retain their properties.

Step 2 Explanation :

Following are the steps are taken to remove camphor, common salt, and iron nails from their mixture:

  • The mixture is placed in a beaker of water.
  • When we stir salt, it dissolves, but iron nails and camphor do not.
  • The iron filings and camphor will stay on the paper after the salt solution has passed through the filter.
  • When the filtrate is evaporated over the bunsen burner, the water will evaporate.
  • Salt will be left behind at some point.
  • Pass the magnet over the camphor and iron filings.
  • The iron will be attracted by the magnet, leaving camphor behind a residue.
