Solution

Filtration:-

  • Filtration is a process of separating solids from a liquid or a gas.
  • It is done with the help of a special kind of paper called filter paper.
  • This filter or membrane has small pores through which the liquid or gas is passed and then the solid particles are left behind at the filter.
  • This happens due to the large size of the solid particles as compared to those small pores.

Separating a mixture of chalk and water:-

  • We can separate a mixture of chalk and water, with the help of the filtration process.
  • When the mixture is passed through the filter or membrane, the water gets passes through the small pores present in the filter.
  • But on the other hand due to the large size of the particle in the chalk, they do not get through the small pores.
  • Hence they get collected at the filter and the water gets collected on a beaker.
  • Thus the chalk and water get separated.

Therefore, we can a mixture of chalk and water by the process of filtration.
