The ‘Bosch process’ is used to produce hydrogen by the reaction of coke with steam. The equations with conditions of ‘Bosch process’ are written below :

I. Steam is passed over the hot coke (carbon) in a special furnace to produce water gas $(C O + H_{2})$ . That is,
$C + H_{2} O \to (C O + H_{2})$ - ∆
II. Then, water gas is mixed with excess steam and passed over ferric oxide $(F e_{2} O_{3})$ which acts as a catalyst and chromic oxide $(C r_{2} O_{3})$ which acts as a promoter. That is,
$(450 \circ C)$
$(C O + H_{2}) + H_{2} O \to C O_{2} + 2 H_{2}$ + ∆
