Hypothyroidism in adults leads to myxoedema also known as Gull's disease. It occurs commonly in adults due to deficiency of thyroid hormones when the mental and physical development of body is complete. A decreased level of thyroid hormones causes low metabolic rate in body.
Hyperparathyroidism in adults leads to osteitis fibrosa cystica in which there is increase in parathyroid hormone or parathormone. This stimulates the activity of osteoclasts (cells that cause breakdown of bones). Due to this, bones become weak.
