(i) Chalk contains calcium, carbon and oxygen in the ratio 10:3:12. Find the percentage of carbon in chalk.
(ii) If in a stick of chalk, carbon is 3 g, what is the weight of the chalk stick?

i) Chalk contains calcium, carbon and oxygen in the ratio of
10:3:12
Let x be common ratio.
Calcium =10x
Carbon =3x
oxygen =12x
% of carbon =3x10x+3x+12x×100
=3x25x×100
% of carbon =12%


ii) Now, weight ofcarbon is 3g
Let total mass of chalk is x gram
12% of x=3
12100×x=3
x=30012=25
weight is 25 grams
