Before the incident, Hari Singh stayed with Anil so that he could rob him and leave. But after stealing Anil's money, Hari Singh realised that he had robbed not only Anil but also himself. He understood that he had lost the chance of being literate and having a bright future. His conscience pricked him and forced him to return. He felt bad because Anil was the most trusting person he had ever met.
