Solution

Let us find the \(3\)-digit number formed using the given rules.
The biggest digit is \( 9\).
Let's use \(9\) in hundreds place.
The digit at tens place is the same as that in hundreds place.
So, the digit at tens place is also \(9\).
The digit at ones place is \(2\) less than the digit in tens place.
So, \(9 - 2 = 7\)
So, the number \(= 9 \text{ hundreds}+ 9 \text{ tens} + 7 \text{ ones} \)\(= 900 + 90 + 7 = 997\)
