Solution

Diatomic elements- If two atoms are present in the molecule of an element is called diatomic elements.

Definition of atomicity

The number of atoms present in the molecule is called its atomicity.

Based on atomicity, the elements are classified into 3

  1. Monoatomic elements.
  2. Diatomic elements
  3. Poly atomic elements.

Monoatomic elements- If only one atom is present in the molecule of an element, it is called monatomic elelments.

For example, Helium- He, Silver- Ag etc

Diatomic elements- If two atoms are present in the molecule of an element is called diatomic elements.

For example, Hydrogen - H2 , Chlorine- Cl2, Iodine- I2

Poly atomic elements- If a molecule which contain more than two atoms is called polyatomic elements.

For example- Ozone (O3), Phosphorous(P4), Sulphur (S8).

Hence, Diatomic elements

Hydrogen - H2 , Chlorine- Cl2, Iodine- I2

Ozone (O3), Phosphorous(P4), Sulphur (S8) - Poly atomic molecules.
