  • Colloids are mixtures having 1-1000 nm sized particles which are dispersed in the dispersion medium.
  • The particles which are dispersed in the medium are called the dispersed phase.
  • The medium in which particles are dispersed is called the dispersion medium.

Cheese: Cheese is made up of fats suspended or dispersed in water.
Dispersed phase: Fat (Solid).
Dispersion medium: Water (Liquid).

Cheese belongs to the category of colloid ‘Gel' whereas curd also belongs to the same category.
