The given figure is divided into 4 equal parts out of which 2 parts are shaded.

Hence, the portion representing the shaded part is 2/4 which is the same as 1/2.
So number of litres used to paint shaded portion = 1/4 lit
So fraction of non shaded portion = 1/2 which is equals to shaded portion.
So 1/4 litre of paint is required to paint non- shaded portion.
