Finding the red and blue paint should be used:

Given that to mix a particular shade of purple paint, red paint and blue paint are mixed in the ratio 5:3.
Let the red paint are mixed be 5x and blue paint are mixed be 3x

Total paint =20 gallons
Amount of red paint used =5x5x+3x×20
=58×20=12.5gallons
Amount of blue paint used =3x5x+3x×20
=38×20=7.5gallons

Hence, the amount of red and blue paint used to make shade of purple paint of 20gallons is 12.5gallonsand7.5gallons.
