Solution

The correct option is C 10 J
By the process of photosynthesis, plants trap the solar energy and this energy is passed on to another organism in the food chain. Herbivores are eaten by the primary carnivores. Only 10% of the productivity of producers is utilised for raising productivity of primary consumers and the same goes for secondary as well as tertiary consumers. This is called the 10% law. So if the plant traps 10,000 J of energy then 10% of it will pass on to the grasshopper which is 1,000 J, again 10% of this energy will pass from grasshopper to shrew which is 100 J and finally the owl will receive a 10% of the energy that is consumed by shrew which is 10 J.
