Question

If 36 grams of carbon and 32 grams of oxygen gas are allowed to react to form carbon dioxide, which one is the limiting reagent?

Open in App
Solution

A limiting reagent is one which is present less in amount as compared to which is required.
Given masses C=36g,O=32g
As per reaction C+O2CO2
12g of C reacts with 32g of Oxygen.
Only 12g of C out of 36g reacts as the OXygen is limited.
36g of C requires=36×3212=96g of O.
Hence, Limiting reagent is oxygen.
