If $4\frac{1}{3}$ metres is cut from a rope which is $6\frac{1}{2}$ metres long, then how much rope is left?

Total length of the rope

$=6\frac{1}{2}=\frac{(6\times 2)+1}{2}=\frac{13}{2}m$

Length removed

$=4\frac{1}{3}=\frac{(4\times 3)+1}{3}=\frac{13}{3}m$

Length of the rope left $=\frac{13}{2}-\frac{13}{3}$
$=\frac{13\times 3}{2\times 3}-\frac{13\times 2}{3\times 2}$
$=\frac{39}{6}-\frac{26}{6}$
$=\frac{39-26}{6}$
$=\frac{13}{6}$
$=\frac{(6\times 2)+1}{6}$
$=2\frac{1}{6}m$
