Solution

The correct option is A ₹50,400
Here, the wages are directly proportional to the number of men and also to the number of days.
Number of men Wages Number of days
12 ₹42,000 30
18 x 24
12:18 = 2:3 42000:x 30:24 = 5:4

Wages Number of men
42000 : x = 2 : 3 ...(i)

Wages Number of days
42000 : x = 5 : 4 ...(ii)

From (i) and (ii), we get,
42000:x=compound ratio of 2 : 3 and 5 : 4
42000 : x=(2 : 3) × (5 : 4)
42000 : x=(2 × 5) : (3 × 4)
42000 : x=(10 : 12) or (5 : 6)

Product of means = Product of extremes
x × 5 = 42000 × 6
x = 50400

So, ₹50,400 would have been spent if there were 18 men working for 24 days.
