Question

If a 5kg mass is raised to a height of 2m, calculate the work done against the force of gravity.

Open in App
Solution

Find the work done:

Given data:

Mass, m=5kg

Height(h) h=2m

Acceleration due to gravity g=9.8ms-2.

We know that work done formula, then

Workdone=Force(F)×displacement(s)

Where F=mg and s=h then,

W=m×g×h

Substitute the values

=5×9.8×2=98J

Thus, the work done against the force of gravity is 98J
