Let probability of occurrence of A = x
Let probability of occurrence of A = y
Probability of occurrence of both = xy = 18
Probability that both will not occur = (1-x)(1-y) = 38
Therefore,
x + y = 34
y = 34 -x
Substituting in the above equation,
(34 -x)x = 18
8x^2 - 6x +1 =0
x = 14 or 32
