Question

If a function f : R → R be defined by
fx=3x-2,x<0;1,x=0;4x+1,x>0.
find: f(1), f(−1), f(0) and f(2).

Solution

f (1) = 4 × 1 + 1 = 5 [By using f (x) = 4x + 1, x > 0]
f (- 1) = 3 × (-1) - 2 [By using f (x) = 3x - 2, x < 0]
= - 3 - 2 = - 5
f (0) = 1 [By using f (x) = 1, x = 0]
f (2) = 4 × 2 + 1 [By using f (x) = 4x + 1, x > 0]
= 9
Hence,
f (1) = 5, f (-1) = - 5, f (0) = 1 and f (2) = 9.
