If a line is drawn parallel to the X-axis and (-3,5), (6,5) are two points on that line then find the coordinates of the point which is 5 units away from (6,5).
(11,5)
(1,5)
Given that (-3,5) and (6,5) are two points on a line parallel to X-axis.
The distance between any two points an a line parallel to X-axis =|x1−x2| where x1 and x2 are X-coordinates of points.( Y coordinates will be the same )
Let the coordinates of required point be (x,5)
∴|x−6|=5
⇒x−6=5 (or) x−6=−5 ( Since it can be either side of the coordinate axes)
⇒x=11 (or) x=1
∴ Points are (11, 5) and (1,5)
