Question

If a reactant is in solid phase and its surface area is increased , the rate of the reaction increases .why?

Solution

Dear Student,
The rate of a reaction increases on increasing the surface area because the reaction rate is determined by the number of collisions .As the surface area is increased larger number of particles will get a chance to come in close contact and thus collide with each other . More the number of collisions , larger will be the number of effective collisions and thus activated complex will be formed faster and hence reaction rate will be improved .
