If Ionic bonds are stronger then covalent bonds then why they easily break down on dissolving in water but not covalent bons(we can break ionic bonds in water by boiling it but can't seperate H2 and O)?

Solution

Dear Student,

Ionic forces are stronger than covalent forces, but we know that like dissolves in like. Ionic bond as well as water both are polar in nature, therefore, ionic compounds dissolve or we can say dissociate in water.
However, covalent compounds are non polar in nature and so doesnot dissolve in water and so do not dissociate. They dissolve in non polar solvents.
