Question

If A=2^i+7^j+3^k and B=3^i+2^j+5^k, then find the projection of a on b.

Open in App
Solution

Unit vector along b is ^b=b|b|=2^i+6^j+3^k22+62+32=2^i+6^j+3^k7
So, the length of projection of a on b is a.^b=(7^i+^j4^k).2^i+6^j+3^k7=87
Therefore the vector projection of a on b is:
(a.^b)^b=87(2^i+6^j+3^k7)=1649^i+4849^j+2449^k.
