Question

If $$p=-2$$, find the value of $$-2p^3-3p^2+4p+7$$.

Solution

$$p=-2$$
$$-2{ p }^{ 3 }-3{ p }^{ 2 }+4p+7=-2{ \left( -2 \right)  }^{ 3 }-3{ \left( -2 \right)  }^{ 2 }+4\left( -2 \right) +7$$
$$=-2(-8)-3(4)+4(-2)+7$$
$$=16-12-8+7$$
$$=4-1=3$$
