Question

If the concentration of H+(aq) ions decreases the pH will increase.how?

Open in App
Solution

Decrease in H+ ion concentration of a solution decreases its acidity. As pH is defined as the negative log of hydrogen ion concentration of a solution (pH = -log[H+]), therefore less is the concentration of H+ ions, less is the acidic character of the solution and higher is its pH.

Hence, decrease in H+ ion concentration of a solution increases the pH of the solution.
