Then, as per the given statement form an equation
$3y+x=60$ ----- (1)
$2x+y=80$ ------ (2)
From equation (1)
$3y=60-x$
$y=\frac{(60-x)}{3}$
Put the value of y in equation (2)
$2x+\frac{(60-x)}{3}=80$
$6x+60-x=240$

$x=36$
So, the fathers age is 36 years.
