Let father’s age be x years

Son’s ages = y years

$\Rightarrow$ 2y + x = 56 …………… (i)

$\Rightarrow$ 2x + y = 82 …………… (ii)

Multiplying equation (i) by 2, we get

4y + 2x = 112........(iii)

Subtracting (ii) from (iii) we get

3y = 30, $\Rightarrow$ y = 10

Substituting the value of y in equation (i), we get;

2(10) + x = 56

$\Rightarrow$ x = 36
