If twice the age of son is added to the age of father, the sum is 56. But if twice the age of the father is added to the age of son, the sum is 82. Find the ages of father and son.
Son = 10, Father = 36
Let father’s age be x years
Son’s ages = y years
⇒ 2y + x = 56 …………… (i)
⇒ 2x + y = 82 …………… (ii)
Multiplying equation (i) by 2, we get
4y + 2x = 112........(iii)
Subtracting (ii) from (iii) we get
3y = 30, ⇒ y = 10
Substituting the value of y in equation (i), we get;
2(10) + x = 56
⇒ x = 36
