Part 1: Disposal of human waste excreta without water
A one time flush in a western toilet will use 9 to 11 litres of water. Saving this amount will help a lot in water conservation.

Dry composting toilets where water is not used to dispose of human waste is an alternative to using water. This sustainable method is called ecological sanitation. In this method the excreta is converted into natural fertilisers like in the ‘EcoSan’ toilets used in areas of Kerala. Recycling and recovery of nutrients in excreta is carried out.
