Let the number be x.
According to the question,
Thrice of the number + 2 = Four times the number
3x + 2 = 4x

If x =1,
LHS = 3x+2=3×1+2=3+2=5
RHS = 4×1=4
LHS RHS

If x = 2,
LHS = 3x+2=3×2+2=6+2=8
RHS = 4x=4×2=8
LHS = RHS

Therefore, x = 2 holds good for the equation.
Hence, the required number will be 2.
