If you multiply a number by 3 and then add 40, the result is the same as if you first add 17 and then multiply by 2. What is the result if you subtract 9 from the number and then multiply by 4?

The correct option is A 60
Let the number be x.
As per problem,
40 is added to a number and 3 is multiplied to the number then equation we will get be,
3x+40
Given is that result will be same, if 17 is added with number and multiplied by 2 equation will be
(x+17)2=2x+34
As per problem, both equations are same so
2x+34=3x+40
3x2x=3440
x=6
So, the no is 6. if we subtract 9 and multiply by 4, we will get
=(69)×4
=(15)4
=60
