Solution

Let the C be the set of population who travels by car, B be the set of population who travels by bus.

Given,

n(C) = 20%, n(B) = 50%, n(C ∩ B) = 10%

In order to find the percentage of the population that travels either by car or bus, we need to find n(C ∪ B).

n(C ∪ B) = n(C) + n(B) - n(C ∩ B)

= 20 + 50 - 10 = 60.

Therefore, 60% of the population travels either by car or bus.
