If each students are given $n$ chocolates

Total chocolates distributed is $n\times n$ = $n^2$

$\therefore n^2=676$

$n=\sqrt{676}$

$n=\sqrt{2\times 2\times 13\times 13}$

$n=\sqrt{2^2\times {13}^2}$

$n=2\times 13$

$n=26$

So, number of students is equal to $26$.
