In a class there are 4 more girls than boys . When only 8 boys were absent the number of girls were twice the number of girls.what is the total number of girls and boys in the class. Please answer it with all steps.

let a number of boys x and number of girls y
there are 4 more girls than boys
so, y= x+4

now When only 8 boys were absent the number of girls was twice the number of boys.
2(x-8)=y
2x -16= x+4
2x-x= 16+4 =20
x=20
number of boys = x =20
number of girls = y = x+4 = 20+4 =24
