Question

In a rectangular strain gauge rosette, if the strains recorded are and ϵ90=100μ then the maximum principal strain at the point is ____________μ
ϵ0=200μ,ϵ45=150μ
  1. 200

Solution

The correct option is A 200
ϕxy=2×ϵ45(ϵ0+ϵ90)

=2×(150)(200+100)=0

ϵ1,2=ϵ0+ϵ902±(ϵ0ϵ902)2+(ϕxy2)2

=(200+1002)±(2001002)2+(0)2

=150±50

Maximum principal strain = 200 μ
