In a right circular cone the radius of its base is 6 cm and its height is 14 cm. A cross section is made through the mid-point of the height parallel to the base. Find the volume of the lower portion?

Volume of cone =13πr2h
Volume of lower part = volume of full cone - volume of upper cone
For full cone r=6,h=14 cm
For upper cone r1=r2=62=3 cm & h=7 cm
Volume of lower part =13πr2h13πr21h
=13π(r2hr21h)

=13×227(62×1432×7)

=13×227×7(36×29)=13×227×7(729)=462 cm3
