In a science test given to 10 students, the following marks [out of 100] are

recorded as: 77, 43, 39, 56, 96, 47, 53, 45, 45, 55.

Find out the mean & median of the above marks. [3 MARKS]

Concept: 1 Mark each
Answer: 0.5 Mark each

Mean = sum of total observations/number of observations

Sum of total observations = 77+43+39+56+96+47+53+45+ 45+55 = 556

Total number of observation = 10

Mean = 55.6

For median arrange in ascending order

39,43,45,45,47,53,55,56,77,96

Since even number of observation

So the median is the average of the (n2)thand (n2+1)thobservation

i.e 5th and 6th observation

(47+532)

= 50
